Miss America 2008 at CU-Boulder During
National Eating Disorders Awareness Week

Eating Disorder Center of Denver helped bring Miss America 2008 Kirsten Haglund to University of Colorado at Boulder February 23 to help raise eating disorder awareness during National Eating Disorders Awareness Week.

Haglund struggled with anorexia for several years as an adolescent and chose eating disorder awareness as her platform while participating in the Miss America Organization.

The event, titled “Freedom from Perfection: Overcoming body wars, diet culture and taking back our souls,” drew a large crowd of students, eating disorder industry professionals and those interested in learning more about eating disorders. Haglund speaks regularly about the negative effects of eating disorders and educating women and men about their right and responsibility to define beauty on their own terms.
