For a Family Member
At EDCD, we believe that the involvement of family and friends is crucial to recovery. We know as loved ones of a person suffering from an eating disorder, that you may be seeing the negative affects of this disease. You may see fear, pain, frustration, and disruption in their normal lives and that you want to support them through recovery.
We want you to understand what an eating disorder really is, and to know what to expect during the treatment and recovery. We offer group therapy and other education programs to help explore the family connection.
Please remember that is essential that your loved one be willing to participate. We are an open facility that empowers our patients to find the strength to heal as individuals. Learn more here.

How Eating Disorder Treatment Works
An eating disorder treatment program isn’t the same for any two people. After an initial assessment, we will determine the best types of treatment for the patient. But to help you know what to expect, here are the main steps to expect after you first contact us.
First, a compassionate and discreet staff member will talk to you and help you set up your assessment, and answer any immediate questions you may have regarding EDCD or questions like insurance coverage and paying for services. You may meet with a benefit counselor to figure out what your insurance will cover.
Next, if you’re local, you’ll come to our office in Denver for your assessment. If you live in another state, we’ll complete your assessment over the phone. An assessment is a session to discuss your eating issues, and any other contributing factors, such as depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, substance abuse, etc. This will help us get to know you so we can determine a treatment option that will be best for your needs and comfort level.
After your assessment, a coordinator will work with you to schedule an appointment with an individual therapist, dietitian, psychiatrist or any other providers that were recommended as part of your treatment plan.
Once you start your treatment, you will be assigned to an individual therapist who will be your main contact for ongoing support and questions. Your therapist will also help you join other outpatient groups and ongoing support programs during or after your treatment if you’d like.
