Once patients have completed PHP, they step down to IOP. At this stage in recovery, patients are ready to transition to some eating on their own and having time away from the center. The patient and treatment team decide on a schedule that varies up to six hours a day, seven days a week. IOP schedules vary according to patient needs – from three to seven days a week, and includes one meal and snack each day at the center. An average day is about four hours. During IOP, patients begin planning how to manage their life once they leave treatment.
