Kara Shelman, LMSW, MPH
Regional Outreach Representative
Kara received her Masters degree in Social Work from the University of Kansas in 2009 and a Masters in Public Health from the University of Iowa in 2006. She has over six years of clinical eating disorder experience working at the inpatient and partial hospital based program at Research Medical Center, as well as a residential program in Colorado. In addition to working with eating disorders, she has extensive training in grief and loss, mood disorders, women's issues and a particular interest in compulsive exercise and working with athletes.
At the University of Iowa she focused much of her degree on eating disorder prevention programming and community health education. She has a passion for educating others on the medical complexities of eating disorders, effective treatment modalities and the need for expanded insurance coverage and treatment options for patients and their families. Kara feels strongly about the need of collaboration with community partners in order to serve those struggling as best we can.
